Jorge Martinez is the Vice President/Sales at JR Custom Metal Products, Inc. JR Custom produces many different parts and assemblies, made from different metal substrates for a variety of manufacturers.
In 2017, IntelliFinishing installed a complete powder coating system in a 24,000 sq. ft. facility. IntelliFinishing systems provide the flexibility for the unknown, including future parts and processes, and in 2020 JR Custom added a new prime coat booth to their existing finishing system. Unlike traditional powder coating systems that use overhead monorail conveyors, adding the additional booth did not result in the addition of any conveyor (or chain, because IntelliFinishing doesn't use a chain) and minimal downtime.
Powder coating systems that use overhead monorail conveyors are best suited for one size of part with no variations in processes. Since JR Custom Metal Products produces a variety of parts, they determined other solutions that used chain conveyors would not be a good fit, even though they were less costly.
By bringing power coating in-house, JR Custom was able to eliminate over $1.0M in outsourcing costs yearly. You can read more about their story here.

These [IntelliFinishing] systems are so flexible and can do so many different things that once we got up and going and learning some things, the system was set up to operate in a certain manner, and we wanted to make some changes just because the way we run production.
So by having IntelliFinishing come in and do some extra programming and configure some things the way we wanted it to operate allowed us to customize the system to fit us.
That was just a matter of having the programmers come in and do some adjustments and understand what we're doing. We're not only learning the system and understanding it, but they're understanding how our product works – the fact that we are a job shop and have such a large variety of product.
